Designing for Fireplaces
When I approach a show on stage, I am looking at the story to be told. My job as a designer is to tell that story in the medium I am working in as either a scenic designer or a lighting designer.
I approach a fireplace in the same way. I look at not just the fireplace, but also the room the fireplace occupies. Fireplaces are the focal point of any room. It is critical to accent this focal point. As a designer, this means not just using a stock, off-the-shelf product, but furnishing the fireplace as you would decorate a room. Thus, the inside of the fireplace may not want to be black. You will see examples of this in the Faux Painting section. A screen may be smaller than the opening of a fireplace when a fireplace is overpowering the room. That was the very reason for the design of the Belmont screen. When it comes to the heart of the fireplace, or the fire itself, it is critical to provide the right feel and weight to the fireplace. This is why I started designing and creating Custom Designed Personalized gas log sets. Gas logs that have the right weight and flame for the fireplace can truly become the heart of the fireplace; the heart of the home. I have pushed manufacturers to design differently so I can achieve the look and function a fireplace deserves. This gallery showcases some of my designs.
